1. Predictions

In the European Championship pool of Sportpools.net you try to get as many points as possible by correctly predicting the results, with the goals and assists that your top scorers make and with predicting the champion in advance. On your personal prediction page, you enter the results of the matches and four top scorers for each phase (group phase, eighth final, quarter-final, semi-final and final). The game is divided into two phases: the group phase and the knockout phase. Below we describe per phase how to submit a complete prediction and how the scoring system works.

In the group phase you can earn points in three ways: by predicting match results, with four top scorers and filling in the prediction for the champion.

  • Match results
The group phase consists of 6 groups in which 6 matches are played per group. So for the group phase you predict 36 matches for which you can earn points.

    Regular time and extra time
The final result that we use in the group phase is the score after 90 minutes (regular playing time) and any extra time that is added.

  • Top scorers
Prior to the group phase, you select four top scorers. The players you select can score points per assist or goal scored in a maximum of three matches. We distinguish three valuations, based on the player's position.

    Position Points
Defender and goalkeeper, per assist/goal 72
    Midfielder, per assist/goal 36
    Attacker, per assist/goal 18

    Own goal
No points and/or penalty points are awarded for a player making an own goal. However, points will be rewarded for the assisting player.

  • Champion prediction
You can earn points by correctly predicting the champion. You can fill in your championship prediction up to the deadline of the group phase.

Valid registration
Your team is only valid if your predictions are completed for all matches, you have selected four top scorers and you have made a prediction for the champion. Player lists are subject to change. So check your completed top scorers before the deadline. An incomplete prediction will not be removed from the pool.

Deadline
The deadline for predicting the group phase is prior to the first group match: Friday, June 11, 9:00 PM (GMT).

During the knockout phase you can earn points in two ways: through your prediction of match results and with four top scorers.

  • Match results
The knockout phase consists of 8 eighth finales, 4 quarter-finals, 2 semi-finals and 1 final. So for the knockout phase you predict 15 matches which you can earn points for.

    Result prediction Points
    Toto and result correct
    (example: prediction 3-0, result 3-0)
    150
    Toto correct
    (example: prediction 2-2, result 1-1)
    110

    Overtime and extra time
As of the knockout phase, overtime is possible. If there is overtime, the final result will be determined after the overtime: 120 minutes and extra time.

    Penalty shootout
No points will be awarded to the team that wins the penalty shootout. You do not have to predict the team that wins the penalty shootout.

    Toto and result correct
(example: prediction 1-1, result 1-1. Team X or Y wins the penalty shootout)

  • Top scorers
Before each round of the knockout phase, you select four top scorers. The players you select can score points per assist or goal scored. The structure and evaluation is the same as in the group phase:

    Position Points
Defender and goalkeeper, per assist/goal 72
    Midfielder, per assist/goal 36
    Attacker, per assist/goal 18

    Overtime and extra time
As of the knockout phase, overtime is possible. Points are awarded for goals scored during any overtime and extra time.

    Own goal
No points and/or penalty points are awarded for a player making an own goal. However, points will be rewarded for the assisting player.

    Penalty series
A goal during a penalty shootout (after overtime and extra time) does not count. A goal from a penalty during extra time and extra time does count.

Deadline
The deadline for predicting the knockout phase is prior to the first match of that round. So there are 4 deadlines in total for submitting your prediction(s):

  • Round of 16: Saturday, June 26, 6:00 PM (GMT).
  • Quarter-finals: Friday, July 2, 6:00 PM (GMT).
  • Semi-finals: Tuesday, July 6, 9:00 PM (GMT).
  • Final: Sunday 11 July 9:00 PM (GMT).

The points are updated after each match.

The information from UEFA is leading in the processing of the match results and goals.

Discussion may arise in the awarding of goals scored by a player. Goalscorer changes made by UEFA will be incorporated therein. We do this until the start of a match in the next phase of the tournament. For the final, we adhere to a maximum period of 24 hours after the end of the finale.

Right now we are dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic. This may have consequences for the European Championship 2020. There is a possibility that the tournament will not be organized or not in its entirety. Therefore we drawn up the following preconditions:

  • The pool starts when the first group match of the tournament is started.
  • If the tournament is ended prematurely, the results of the games played will remain valid.
  • If the tournament is discontinued - and is played out at a later time - the pool will also be discontinued.
  • After the pool you will earn career points. Career points can only be earned if at least the group phase is completed.
  • When the pool has started and a player is kicked out of the tournament, no reserves (for top scorers) are possible.
  • If the pool has started and a team is kicked out of the tournament, no points will be awarded for those matches (no walk-over).

In case of a tie between participants of the European Championship pool of Sportpools.net, the height in ranking will be determined as follows:

  • The person who predicted the most matches correctly (toto + result).
  • If the score is the same, then the person who has scored the most points with the chosen top scorers will be ranked higher.
  • If the score is the same, the ranking will be determined who has scored the most points with the chosen champion.
  • If the score is the same, then we will look at the participants who first registered at Sportpools.net.
